The True Meaning of Easter

I got bored and wanted to write. I asked a few people for topic suggestions as to what to write about. Here is my poem response to the topic of Easter!

The True Meaning of Easter

As I pondered and had nothing to do,
I decided to write-- until time was through.
I proposed the query of “what to write.”
And in came the answer, at the speed of light!
She handed over the puzzling teaser--
That stated: “What is the true meaning of Easter?”

Loosing no beat, I decided to tackle
The very theology of her mackle.
At once my childhood flooded by,
As waters of the rising tides--
Into that very alarming place
Where those memories were once embraced.

I used to think of bunnies and carrots;
But never how they got their merits.
I even thought of eggs and candy
And how it sounded to me so dandy—
That every year to wake and see
A “magical bunny” left gifts for me!

Now my comprehension is able
To know how foolish was that fable.
The Evil who tries to abort God’s ways,
Is tricking many, in giving false praise!
So what is its meaning, you may dare to ask?
Let’s jump into that horrific past:

Long ago, before Easter crept in,
Everyone knew that they lived in sin.
Few made it past all the laws to be kept;
Greater the number who was in much threat--
Condemned to Hell for eternal pain.
Only through The Flawless, could death be slain.

God loves us so much, He sent His Son,
His One and only, to let the battle be won.
As a lamb, He travelled through dark,
Doing no wrong, yet bearing sin’s mark.
Yet in the end, they could not see
The loving King, who created thee.

Thinking only of self, the people cried,
“Take this man to be crucified!”
He already forgave their throwing of weights,
Then turned to face his final fate.
He died before their mocking faces
Only for fulfilling them graces.

Three days dead His body lied;
Evil gloried in wicked pride.
No man or beast could bear their price
From beating fleshly life to bice.
Heartbeats stopped when Life appeared.
Should they feel jubilant or full of fear?

Take your pick of death or life
Christ fulfilled by taking the knife.
All you have to do is believe,
That He bore the pain for you and me.
Everything happened for a reason,
And thus, He’s the “reason for the season.”

Next time someone asks that teaser,
Be sure to tell the true meaning of Easter!
